Puck origins.
The word “puck” is believed to originate as a verb from the ancient Scottish and Irish Gaelic game of Hurling where players would puc or poc (poke) a ball. “Puck” may have been first introduced to North America from the Irish living in Halifax. The word was first referenced to hockey, in print, in Montreal in 1867. In earlier times, Puck was a name of a character in Shakespeare’s 1596 A Midsummer Night’s Dream play.
